Miami Vice (2007)
Colin Farrell and Jamie Fox star in Michael Mann’s adaptation of the old TV show (which I’ve never seen) of the same name. When I first started the movie, I thought something MUST be wrong with my HBO settings. Shit looked like it was filmed on a Motorola RAZR. I quickly peeped some reviews on it and realized that was intentional as this movie premiered at the height of the transition from film to digital production, and it’s part of the charm of the movie. As it went on I grew to appreciate it and the textures it provided. I had no expectation for this particular movie since I didn’t see the show, but it had some classic gunfights courtesy of Michael Mann that we’ve all come to love. I’ve never been in a shootout, but that’s exactly how I would imagine bullets sound, and I love the third person GTA-style point of view during these scenes. Also, "Numb/Encore" by Jay-Z and Linkin Park is one of the hardest songs of all time and the perfect opener for this flick. It’s no Heat (1995), but this movie is definitely worth a watch and probably holds up more in 2022 than it did in 2007.
